Introduction

Justin Aldrich Rockefeller (born July 12, 1979) is an American venture capitalist and political activist and a sixth-generation member of the prominent Rockefeller family.

Life and work

Justin Aldrich Rockefeller was born on July 12, 1979 in West Virginia. He is the youngest son of former West Virginia senator, Jay Rockefeller (b. 1937), and his wife, Sharon Percy Rockefeller (b. 1944). Rockefeller's maternal grandfather was former U.S. Senator Charles H. Percy (1919–2011) while his paternal grandparents were Blanchette Ferry Hooker (1909–1992) and John D. Rockefeller III (1906–1978), the eldest son of philanthropists John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller.

In 2002, Rockefeller graduated with a B.A. from Princeton University.

Career

At age 25, Rockefeller co-founded Generation Engage, a nonprofit nonpartisan organization that used grassroots activism and technology to help politicians and community college students engage with one another. In January 2010, GenerationEngage merged with a similar nonprofit, Mobilize.org.

In 2009, he became a principal with Richmond Management, a global venture capital firm.

Rockefeller is the global director of family offices and foundations at Addepar, a company that writes software to aggregate and analyze financial data. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Richmond Sustainability Foundation and Mobilize.org.

Personal life

In 2006, Rockefeller, who lives in New York, New York, married to Indré Vengris, a dancer and fashion executive.

Awards

In 2008, Rockefeller was an honoree of the Edwin P. Hubble Medal of Initiative, the city of Marshfield, Missouri's highest honor. He has also received a 2009 Ashoka “Entrepreneur for the Good and Close Co-Venturer” award, the 2009 TEAK FellowshipVolunteer of the Year Award, a 2008 New Leaders CouncilForty Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award, and the 2007 Common Cause Andrew Heiskell Youth Democracy in Action Award. He also served as a member of the National Leadership Council for GLSEN, the national advocacy organization for safe schools and anti-bullying.
