James Burdette Thayer (also known as Jim Thayer) is a retired United States Army brigadier general who served on active duty during World War II; and following the war, in the United States Army Reserve. In his civilian life, Thayer founded a successful business supply company in Beaverton, Oregon. He was later appointed Oregon’s civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army and then re-activated as commander of the Oregon State Defense Force. Today, the Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycombe is named in his honor.
