Introduction

Jacob Sylvester Bugh (January 23, 1826 – October 23, 1901) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Biography

Bugh was born in Somerset, Ohio in January 1826, although sources have differed on the exact date. In 1861, he married Lydia Hood, daughter of Thomas Hood, later a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. They had three children.

In the early 1850s, Bugh had been a prominent figure in the organization of Waushara County, Wisconsin. During the American Civil War, he was a major with the Union Army.

Bugh died on October 23, 1901. His brother, William A. Bugh, was also a member of the Assembly.

Political career

Bugh was a member of the Assembly in 1860 and 1883. Other positions he held include Chairman (similar to Mayor) of Dakota, Wisconsin and Chairman of the county board of supervisors and County Judge of Waushara County. He was a Republican.
