Biography
Henry Cadogan (1642–1713/14) of Liscarton, County Meath,was the son of Major William Cadogan and Elizabeth Roberts. His fatherwas born at Dunster, Somerset to an old Pembrokeshire family. He served with Oliver Cromwellin Ireland, and was rewardedfor his services with the estate of Liscarton, where Henry grew up. Henry also acquired lands in County Limerick.
Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, he was a barristerand also High Sheriff of Meath in 1700.Unlike his eldestson William he did not play a leading part in public life.
He married, on about 31 July 1671, Bridget,second daughter ofthe regicide Sir Hardress Waller and Elizabeth Dowdall, by whom he had five children:
- William Cadogan, 1st Earl Cadogan (1672–1726)
- Ambrose Cadogan (died unmarried 1693)
- Charles Cadogan, 2nd Baron Cadogan (1685–1776)
- Frances Cadogan (died aged 9)
- Penelope Cadogan, who married Sir Thomas Prendergast, 1st Baronet
