Introduction

Henry Forbes Low (15 August 1882 – 26 September 1920) was a Scottish professional football wing half who made over 200 appearances in the Football League for Sunderland. He also played in the Scottish League for Aberdeen. Low was called up by Scotland for a friendly match versus Ireland in 1913, but pulled out of the squad in order to play in a 1912–13 FA Cup semi-final.

Personal life

Low was the elder brother of footballer Wilf Low. In February 1917, two-and-a-half years since the outbreak of the First World War, Low enlisted in the Royal Navy as an able seaman. He served on HMS Dido and was honourably discharged after being wounded. Low became the landlord of a pub in Monkwearmouth in 1919, but he died of pneumonia in September 1920. He was married with four children.
