Introduction

Goo Ha-ra (born January 13, 1991), better known mononymously as Hara, is a South Korean singer and actress. She is a former member of the South Korean girl group Kara, and has also appeared in television dramas including City Hunter (2011). She made her debut as a soloist in July 2015 with the release of her EP Alohara (Can You Feel It?).

Life and career

Goo Ha-ra was born on January 13, 1991, in Gwangju, South Korea. She participated in S.M. Entertainment's youth appearance tournament in 2005. In 2007, she unsuccessfully auditioned to join JYP Entertainment.

She attended Sungshin Women's University.

2008–2015: Kara

Hara joined the girl group Kara in 2008, following the departure of former member Kim Sung-hee. In late 2008, she appeared along with the other Kara members in an episode of MBC sitcom Here He Comes as a female gang leader.

In October 2009, she became a cast member in the KBS 2TV reality show Invincible Youth (청춘불패). In 2011, she made her acting debut in SBS City Hunter, after filming the Japanese sitcom Urakara. She starred as Choi Da-hye, the daughter of South Korea's president. She also appeared as a female lead in A-JAX's "Never Let Go" music video.

On January 19, 2011, it was announced that Hara would be terminating her contract with her label DSP Media along with three other members of Kara, and a lawsuit was filed on their behalf. Later that day, it was announced that Hara would discontinue her involvement with the suit and had rejoined the company, as she apparently was not fully aware of the lawsuit's details.

In November 2011, she and Nicole Jung became the new MCs for SBS Inkigayo. They left the show on August 19, 2012.

In 2013, she collaborated with Japanese musician and songwriter Fukuyama Masaharu to record a song called "Magic of Love" in Korean under the project group HARA+. The song was used as a soundtrack for FujiTV's drama Galileo, which Masaharu starred in. Later on, Goo Hara had a cameo appearance in Galileo 2 as a company employee. In October 2013, she was appointed as the blood donation ambassador for the Hanmaum Blood Bank.

Her own reality show titled "On & Off" aired on December 29, 2014 on MBC Music.

In January 2015, she appeared as an MC for the KBS idol beauty show A Style For You along with Super Junior's Kim Heechul, EXID's Hani and SISTAR's Bora.

2015–present: Solo debut and departure from DSP Media

In July 2015, Hara debuted as a solo artist with the release of the EP Alohara (Can You Feel It?), which peaked at #4 domestically. The title track "Choco Chip Cookies" features South Korean rapper Giriboy.

On January 15, 2016, Hara's left DSP Media due to the expiration of her contract with the company, prompting Kara to go on an indefinite hiatus.

Personal life

On June 28, 2011, DSP Media announced that Hara was in a relationship with Yong Jun-hyung. It was stated that the relationship had ended on March 27, 2013.

On January 5, 2010, during an appearance on the SBS reality show Strong Heart, Hara admitted to getting dental and minor facial cosmetic surgery. She stated that she had always had double eyelids, but had surgery to make them more defined.
