Introduction

George Schuller (born December 29, 1958) is an American jazz drummer. He is the son of composer Gunther Schuller.

Biography

He was born in New York City and raised in Boston, graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music with a BA in jazz performance in 1982. He then played locally with Herb Pomeroy, Ran Blake, George Garzone, and Jaki Byard. In 1984 he put together the group Orange Then Blue, who released several albums on GM Records. In 1994 he moved to Brooklyn, leading the ensembles Chump Change, Schulldogs, and Jiggle. He played with Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Lee Konitz, Nnenna Freelon, and others. He is also active as a record producer.
