Biography

Friedel Rausch (born 27 February 1940) is a German football manager and former player. He moved from Meidericher SV (now MSV Duisburg) to Schalke where he stayed until 1971 playing as a defender. After his retirement he became manager starting at his former club Schalke. After being sacked he started his first of two tenures for Frankfurt where he won the UEFA Cup for the Main side in 1980. After this success, he had several stints in Germany, Turkey and Switzerland.
In 1969, Rausch produced some headlines as he was bitten by an Alsatian during the derby of Schalke and Dortmund.
End March/beginning April 2006, Rausch was diagnosed with skin cancer.
