Introduction

Eric Ponti (born April 1, 1965) is an American business executive and a former politician from Louisiana. As a Republican politician, he represented District 69 from 2007 to June 19, 2015. He returned to business after 2015.

Eric Ponti was born in Louisiana, on April 1, 1965.

Education

  • Attended Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1978—1983)
  • Received his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, Louisiana (1983—1987)

Career

After completing his education, Ponti worked in construction business in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In 2007, he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, defeating Bill Benedetto. In October 2011, he won re-election to District 61 of the Louisiana House of Representatives.

In 2012 Ponti ran for District 2 of the Louisiana Public Service Commission alongside Scott Angelle (R), Sarah Holliday (R), Forest Wright (D), and Greg Gaubert (no party affiliation) in the primary on November 6, 2012. Angelle won the primary.

In the 2012-2013 legislative session, Ponti served on the following committees:

  • Commerce, Chairman
  • House Committee on Homeland Security
  • Joint Committee on Homeland Security

At the beginning of the 2015 legislative session, he served on Louisiana committee assignments (Commerce, Chair).

Ponti resigned from politics in 2015 and returned to the construction business. Since June 2015, he has been serving as the Executive Director of the Louisiana Asphalt Pavement Association in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
