Introduction

Edoardo Mortara (born 12 January 1987) is a professional Italian racing driver. He is a former Formula Three Euroseries champion and one of two drivers in the Formula Three era to win the prestigious Macau Grand Prix twice having achieved back-to-back victories in 2009 and 2010. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, he holds dual nationality from France and Italy.

Career

Mortara leads Diego Nunes at the Turkish round of the 2009 GP2 Series season.

In 2006 he stepped up to Formula racing, starting in Formula Renault he becomes the top rookie in the Italian Formula Renault and also gaining experience in Eurocup Formula Renault. The biggest challenge of his career was in 2007, when he graduated to the prestigious Formula Three Euroseries, winning 2 races overall en route to his rookie title. He dominated the early stages of the 2008 Formula Three Euroseries season, finishing in the top four of the first eight races of the championship including a win at Pau to lead by 15 points over his rivals. However, his season tailed off dramatically, scoring only 9.5 points from four points-scoring finishes over the final 12 races. Despite this, he managed to finish second in the championship just 2.5 points ahead of third place Jules Bianchi. Mortara moved up to the GP2 Asia Series during the 2008–09 GP2 Asia Series, replacing Euroseries rival Renger van der Zande at Trust Team Arden from the third round onwards. In his first race, Mortara managed to finish third – the first points-scoring finish by an Arden car in this season's championship.

He continued with Arden into the 2009 GP2 Series season, scoring three points on his debut in Barcelona, before holding off Romain Grosjean to win the sprint race to move into second in the championship. He added nine more points throughout the season, to finish in fourteenth in the championship.

At the end of the 2009 season, Mortara returned to Formula Three to contest the final round of the 2009 F3 Euroseries for Kolles & Heinz Union, and the Macau Grand Prix with Signature, going on to win the event ahead of team-mate Jean Karl Vernay. This led to a 2010 campaign in the Formula Three Euroseries. He won the season-opening race at Circuit Paul Ricard.

For 2011, Mortara made a switch to the DTM series driving for Audi Team Rosberg.
