Introduction

Derek Bissue (born December 11, 1992), better known by his stage name Derek Wise, is a Canadian hip hop recording artist from Toronto, Ontario. He is known to be signed with XO, the label and collective founded by singer The Weeknd.

Life

Wise was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 11, 1992. He grew up listening to American rappers like Juvenille, Trick Daddy, Stack Bundles, Max B, and LL Cool J. By the age of 20, Wise had moved around Toronto 14 times. In 2014, Wise had featured in fellow Canadian singer Jazz Cartier music video for the songs Switch/The downtown cliche. In 2015, the same had happened when Wise was featured in The Weeknd King of the fall music video. It was later announced after the release that Wise had been signed by the Canadian singer to the XO record label.

Career

In October 2012, Wise released Vacay, his debut mixtape with 16 tracks. The mixtape premiered on DatPiff.

2016–present: Inglorious

After a year of releasing multiple singles and music videos in 2016, Wise announced his debut album Inglorious on January 21, 2017.

Inglorious was released on January 30, 2017. The album was promoted by Wise on social media and featured on the front page of the iTunes Store in Canada for a short period.
