Introduction

David Taylor (March 11, 1818 – April 3, 1891) was an American politician and jurist from Wisconsin and was a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Biography

Born in Carlisle, New York, Taylor graduated from Union College in 1841 and was admitted to the New York bar in 1844. He married Mary Salome Calender (1828–1898), with whom he had five children.

In 1846, Taylor moved to the Wisconsin Territory, and practiced law in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and later in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1853, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Taylor served as a Wisconsin Circuit Court judge from 1857 to 1869 and served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1855 to 1856 and again from 1869 to 1870. In 1878, Taylor was elected to a newly created seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court and he served until his death.

Taylor died unexpectedly of heart disease in Madison, Wisconsin.
