Introduction
Daniel Richard "Danny" Green (born 9 July 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays as a right winger for League Two club Luton Town.
Career
Early career
Green started his career as a youth player for Charlton Athletic before being released at the age of 15. Green then signed for Northampton Town, earning his first professional contract, but moved to Nottingham Forest a year later. In 2008, Green was released by Nottingham Forest and signed for Conference South club Bishop's Stortford.
Dagenham & Redbridge
In May 2009, Green signed for League Two club Dagenham & Redbridge on a free transfer. Green made his debut for the club in a 2–1 win away to Crewe Alexandra on 8 August. He scored 14 goals from midfield, including one at Wembley Stadium to help Dagenham win promotion to League One via the play-offs. On 25 July 2010, he and team-mate Scott Doe committed themselves to Dagenham by signing new three-year contracts. Dagenham were relegated back to League Two the following season, but Green was one of the club's stand-out performers, scoring 11 goals in the league and two in the FA Cup.
Charlton Athletic
On 29 June 2011, Green was signed by his former youth club Charlton Athletic for a fee of £350,000, signing a three-year contract. He helped Charlton win the League One title, thus gaining promotion to the Championship in his first season with 32 appearances and three goals. Green thereafter struggled to hold down a first-team position. On 2 September 2013, Green agreed a six-week loan deal with Milton Keynes Dons. On 22 May 2014, he was released from Charlton Athletic after making 74 first-team appearances for the club.
Milton Keynes Dons
One day later, Green returned to Milton Keynes Dons, signing a two-year contract. He made 18 appearances and scored twice in all competitions during the 2014–15 season, as Milton Keynes Dons won promotion to the Championship.
On 3 July 2015, Milton Keynes Dons agreed to cancel Green's contract a year early.
Luton Town
A day after his release by Milton Keynes Dons, Green signed a two-year contract with League Two club Luton Town, linking back up with manager John Still who had first signed him from Bishop's Stortford in 2009. Green made his debut for the club in a 1–1 draw with Accrington Stanley on 8 August 2015. He scored his first Luton goals in consecutive matches when he opened the scoring in a 2–1 win at home to Leyton Orient in the Football League Trophy on 1 September, before netting the final goal in a 3–1 win away to Cambridge United four days later. In his first league appearance for almost two months, Green opened the scoring in a 2–0 win at home to Barnet on 14 November. Green scored his fourth goal of the season ten days later in a 4–3 defeat at home to Carlisle United. On 12 December, he netted a penalty kick after a foul on Craig Mackail-Smith in another 4–3 defeat, on this occasion at home to Northampton Town. Green scored his fifth goal in ten league starts in a 3–2 win away to Exeter City one week later. On 30 April 2016, Green suffered a double leg break during a 2–0 defeat away to Northampton Town and would miss the final match of the 2015–16 season. He finished the season with 30 appearances and six goals.
