Biography
Cody Thomas Blackbird is a Cherokee and Dakota musician, and the winner of multiple Native American Music Awards. The son of the poet Thomas Blackbird, he spent his childhood listening to and then learning to play the flute. In 2011, Blackbird became the youngest ever winner of the Flutist of the Year ward at the 13th Native American Music Awards. His 2013 collaboration with Frank Waln, Hear My Cry, was nominated for both Single of the Year and Best Debut/Group/Duo, winning the former. With the Cody Blackbird Band, composed of himself, his brother Caleb, Xavier Torres and Lewis Schenk, Blackbird released All In in 2016.
