Introduction

Brittany Haas is an American fiddle player, who also sometimes sings and plays the banjo. She is best known as a member of the Boston-based alternative bluegrass band, Crooked Still, which is currently on hiatus, and, since 2016, as a regular performer on A Prairie Home Companion.
Haas graduated from Princeton University in 2009 and was a member of the Princeton University Band. She has been a member of Darol Anger's Republic of Strings. Her first CD, Brittany Haas, was released on Ook records in 2004 and includes guest musicians Bruce Molsky, Darol Anger, Todd Sickafoose, Mike Marshall, and her sister, cellist Natalie Haas. Her repertoire focuses on Appalachian mountain music played on the five-string fiddle. She studied with Darol Anger for several years and also credits Bruce Molsky as a mentor. She currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Haas is a member of the house band for the documentary Porchlight Sessions. She performs with the trio Haas Kowert Tice with Paul Kowert on bass and Jordan Tice on guitar. She has also played in a duo with Lauren Rioux.
Haas was on tour as part of the band Dave Rawlings Machine, in support of their album Nashville Obsolete—an album on which Haas appeared on multiple tracks as a guest performer. The tour started in November 2015 and continued through April 2016.
