Brett Austin Baty (born November 13, 1999) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the New York Mets organization. He was drafted by the Mets in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft.

Career

Baty attended Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, where he played basketball and baseball. In 2018, his junior year, he batted .435 with 12 home runs and 27 RBIs, earning the title of Texas' Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. As a senior, he hit .615 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Texas.

Baty was drafted by the New York Mets in the first round (12th overall) of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He signed for $3.9 million, and was assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones. After five games, he was promoted to the Kingsport Mets, before being promoted to the Brooklyn Cyclones. Over 51 games between the three teams, he batted .234/.368/.452 with seven home runs and 33 RBIS.
