Introduction
Ashley Grace Pérez (born January 27, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, philanthropistand musician. She is lead singer and songwriter of the Latin pop duo Ha*Ash.
Early life
Ashley Grace Pérez was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the daughter of Mathilda (née Mosa) and Antonio Pérez. She has two sisters, Hanna Nicole, who is also a singer, Samantha, a brother Steven, and two younger half-brothers Charlie and Josie Pérez. From a young age, Ashley had great passion for music. She began singing in her hometown church at the age of five and sought professional advice.
Career
Ha*Ash was formed in 2002 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The group is composed of sisters Hanna Nicole and Ashley Grace. They recorded their first album Ha*Ash with Mexican producer Áureo Baqueiro. Their first single, "Odio Amarte" was released in 2003 and was successful on Mexican radio stations, TV channels and festivals.
Their second album Mundos Opuestos, was again produced by Áureo Baqueiro, with the single "Amor a Medias" reaching number four on the Mexican Chart in April 2006."Me Entrego a Ti" was the second single from the album was written by Colombian artist Soraya. Both singles have videos that reached No. 1 on television channels.
In 2008, they recorded their third album, Habitación Doble, in Nashville, Tennessee. This album featured a collaboration with singer Brandi Carlile for the song Already Home, their first song recorded in English.
In 2011, they released a fourth album A Tiempo a collaboration with producer Áureo Baqueiro and Italian musician Michele Canova. As the name suggests, the album tells the story of the duo's evolution and path to maturity.
At the end of the A Tiempo tour in 2013, Ha*Ash began the production of their fifth studio album, Primera Fila: Hecho Realidad, released in 2014. Ha*Ash is the youngest group to record a Primera Fila concept album. It features Maluma, Joy Huerta, Julio Ramirez, Axel, Matisse, and a gospel choir. A live performance by Ha*Ash of "Lo Aprendí de Ti" (2015) on Youtube had over 870 million views.
In 2017, they issued 30 de Febrero, which features collaborations with Prince Royce and Abraham Mateo. The first single on this album, "100 Años" featuring Prince Royce reached number one on the Mexican chart billboard in December 2017. The video for this single was released on October 20, 2017.The second single "No Pasa Nada" was released in March 2018, and reached number two on the Mexican Charts. In August 2018, they released the third single from the album, "Eso No Va a Suceder", which reached number one on the Mexican Charts in September 2018;. The fourth single, "¿Qué Me Faltó?", was released on January 4, 2019.
Philanthropy
In December 2007, Ashley and Hanna created their foundation Fondo Ha*Ash, with the objective of contributing to social causes. In 2010, Ashley was named an Honorary Ambassador of Save The Children. She recorded the song "Latente" in 2010 with all proceeds going to the children of Haiti through Save the Children. In 2012 Nickelodeon Latin America announced that Ha*Ash would receive the Pro Social Award of the Kids Choice Awards Mexico 2012. Throughout her career, Ashley Grace has participated in several humanitarian campaigns. In 2016 Nickelodeon Latin America announced that Ha*Ash would receive the Agentes de Cambio Award of the Kids Choice Awards Mexico. This recognition is given to people who stand out for their actions and impact on the environment or society.
Personal life
Ashley's parents divorced in 2005, not long after the release of her first album. Ashley's father and mother are American. Ashley's grandfather is Mexican. Ashley's grandmothers were of German and Spanish ancestry. Their family has been living in Lake Charles for generations.
Ashley currently resides in Houston, Texas. While English is her mother tongue, she is fluent in Spanish.
