Introduction

Adam Pelech (born August 16, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Pelech was selected by the Islanders in the third round, 65th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Pelech was selected by the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL) 65th overall during the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. On March 15, 2014, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Islanders.

During the 2015–16 season, Pelech received his first NHL recall by the Islanders. On November 13, 2015, he made his NHL debut, playing 13 minutes in a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in California. Pelech was again recalled to the Islanders later in the season on January 1, 2016 after Johnny Boychuk was injured.

In early 2016, Pelech left warmups prior to a game with a seemingly minor injury, and was subsequently diagnosed with an "undisclosed injury". Pelech was held out for over two months before returning to the Islanders' minor league affiliate, and upon his return his prior diagnosis of thoracic outlet syndrome was publicly announced. His treatment for this condition included surgery removing his first rib and portions of muscle and tissue.

On July 24, 2017, the Islanders re-signed Pelech to a four-year, $6.4 million contract worth $1.6 million annually.

Personal life

Adam is the brother of Matt Pelech.

He is the nephew of NHL hockey player, Mike Gillis.
